SECRETARY’S MESSAGE

Secretary message….

Greetings from IMA Mumbai West. since this is my second term as secretary of this prestigious club, I have realised that it is a great responsibility next to President. With much experienced in Medicine, medical world, with conference organising capacity and above all his zest to do something different with JOSH for the welfare of members, Professor Dr Ketan Mehta and I shall create a year of knowledge update, fun and frolic.

I would request members of social security and professional protection scheme to kindly pay their renewal fees within stipulated time as the penalty money is very high or it may lead to loss of membership to that particular scheme.

In these difficult times of medical practice and specially the doctors who are made targets for the inevitable death of the patient, we have to be more united.

The antidoctor virus is deeply embedded in the social psych and often makes situations seem insurmountable and too much to handle.

The most unfortunate death of our colleagues Dr Archana Sharma due to depression caused by illegal police action and pressure from politicians, press and relatives send shockwaves amongst the entire medical fraternity specially in women doctors.

Due to active involvement of IMA in this case Chief minister of Rajasthan has suspended the SHO of LALSOT, transformed the superintendent of police and demoted the APO and has ordered strict action on all police officers who were involved in abatement of suicide of Dr Archana Sharma.

Under the guidance and active and prompt involvement of National President Dr Sahajanand Singh, Hon Secretary General HQ Dr Jayesh Lele and other national leadership IMA authorities will continue their efforts until a stringent central law for protection of doctors is passed.

We all will stay united in IMA and motivate more doctors to become members of this prestigious Organisation.
Long live IMA.

Dr. Shobha Ahuja
Hon. Secretary

President’s message

Secretary MessagePresident’s Message…………

Dear Friends,

It is indeed my privilege and honor to be the President of our branch, which is one of the largest and most active branch of the country. I feel proud stating that I was installed in the presence of dignitaries like IMA-HQ HSG Dr. Jayesh Lele & IMA-MS President Dr. Suhas Pingle. My journey with IMA started much before I started my clinical practice. My father Dr. K. C. Mehta made me a member of IMA, once I graduated in Medicine. I was brought in the managing committee by my godfather Dr. Anil Suchak in the late nineties’. I served the association in different capacities all these years. Subsequently, Dr. Jayesh Lele, who I consider another godfather, has given me the opportunity to work at the state & national level. Now, here I am here to serve you to the best of my abilities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives drastically since more than the past 2 years. Though the pandemic is not over yet, we are definitely seeing an improvement. After the dreaded first 2 waves, the 3rd wave, although highly infective, was relatively mild in comparison. Let us all hope that we don’t have to witness the anticipated 4th wave. Hence, we must not put off our guards. Let us continue with the standard precautionary measures. Our vaccination drive is in full swing & I request all of you to complete your precautionary dose (3rd dose), if not done yet. During the pandemic, all our branch activities were affected, but still there were a lot of events which took place virtually. I must congratulate our Immediate Past President Dr. Saurabh Sanjanwala, Hon. Secretary – Dr. Arvind Ghongane and the entire team for their success in overcoming all the situational hurdles.

Now, my team is totally geared up with full Joshhhhh…… I am fortunate to have a seasoned & experienced Hon. Secretary Dr. Shobha Ahuja in my team with lots of other stalwarts from the different specialties in my committee. There are many new entrants to the committee. In the words of Sir Issac Newton, “What we know is a drop, What we don’t know is an ocean”. Our CGP team & AMS team have started working on the CMEs. We intend to continue half of our scientific programs on a virtual platform and the other half in-person, thus giving our members the flexibility in the attendance modes for the CMEs. There are various certificate courses as well as various programs in joint venture with IMA-MS & IMA-HQ lined up for the following year. We also look forward to many cultural events this year, especially the ones to be organised in-person. Our various charity projects will continue, as in the past. Our goal is to make the membership drive more active to increase our strength. Furthermore, a smartphone app for our branch is in the making, for members to have easy access to information regarding branch activities at their fingertips.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you all about the ongoing renewal process of MMC until 31/5/22. I request all of you to do the needful and those who wish to obtain help, can do so on an appointment basis by reaching out to our office staff. Although there are so many things which have been planned for the year, I strongly believe that “let the actions speak rather than words”. Lastly, there is no “I” in TEAM and we can’t spell SUCCESS without U. So, we look forward to your active participation in all our activities.

Wishing you all a flourishing new financial year 2022-23.

Jai Hind. Long live IMA!

Prof. Dr. Ketan K. Mehta
